A Night At The Movies

Adams Square is now running their little Friday Night Film Festival a block away from The Hudson.

Nope- this is not one of those big-stars-shmoozing-the-crowd-with-their-new-release kinda festival, just free popcorn and a great big inflatable screen on one of the blocked off streets showing some of the classics.

Last night's showing was E.T. Along with free popcorn, you could buy great chicken or beef wraps from our very own Adams Kabob House right on the corner.

Food, fun, free movies. That works for me. Next week's showing is Grease (Is the word).

Be there, or be square.

A Slice of History Becomes Our New Library

First, we rehabbed the Streamline Moderne gas station and made it a cool little mini park. Now just a few steps away and just around the corner, Glendale is about to open its newest library in another historical building here in Adams Square - coincidently named The Adams Square Building. Catchy.

AdamsSquare.jpgThe following excerpt is from A is for Adams Square: A Brief History of Adams Square, a report prepared by the Historic Resources Group in 1998. ''The Adams Square Building is a good example of a medium-sized Art Deco style commercial building. As one of the few examples of the style in Glendale, it can also be considered significant for its rarity. Built in 1928, it was designed by Morgan, Walls, and Clements, a prestigious architecture firm that designed thousands of buildings, primarily in Southern California. Some of the firm's most well known designs include the Richfield Building in Los Angeles (1928, since demolished); the Pellissier Building/Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles (1930); the Samson Tyre/Uniroyal Building in Commerce (1929); and the EL Capitan Theatre in Hollywood (1926). The Adams Square Building is the only known example of work of this important architecture firm in Glendale."

1100 E Chevy Chase Drive

Grand Opening
July 26, 1:30 - 5 pm
...sounds like a free party to me!

Haggling on The Hill: Adams Hill holds its 2008 Annual Garage Sale

garage1.jpgTalk about an organized event! Very seldom would one call a yard sale an event, but these pictures speak louder than words. I’m not saying this junk (um…I mean “stuff”) has any more value than your average yard sale, but where else can you shop, get in a good cardiac workout and walk away sore, knowing you put those calf muscles to good use.

I'm not big on finding hidden treasures at yard sales (no bumper stickers on my car that says "born to shop," unlike that jogger in the photo below), but since this one comes with a view it made a great morning stroll- met new neighbors, watched live action haggling, and enjoyed the vibe.

view1.jpgThis yard sale should have been sponsored by the American Heart Association!

New Images! A Walk On the Hill!

Image Library Updated

Ask and ye shall receive. I try, anyway. A lot of people have been telling me it’s hard to gage the deal with the loft. How does the space work with the scheme of things? Is the bedroom on that floor?

view10.jpgHopefully my new shots of the loft area, just added to the image library, helps put things in perspective. I would say the space is best used as a TV/office space. But creative minds might prove me wrong. I’ve yet to see a mirrored disco ball or herb garden up there, but what do I know.

I’ve also added a new area in the image library called “A walk on the hill.” This gives you a glimpse of the streets and hills we live on. About half a block up the hill, the ascent gets pretty dramatic but you get rewarded with great views. BTW- you’ll feel that climb in your legs the next day.view12.jpg Seriously, This isn't a lump, it's our towering hill!

One of the other great things about this location is that we are in the middle of a real neighborhood- homes, parks, cool vintage street lights, far removed from the busy boulevards. Being in a neighborhood surrounded by other neighborhoods will keep the density of this area set to mellow. Check it out.

That’s not to say this is Sleepytown, USA. The Americana at Brand will be opening in a couple of weeks bringing us more theatres (we already have 3, but an 18-plex won’t hurt), great restaurants, and a really great vibe to downtown Glendale. If you have been to The Grove, The Americana is kinda like that- developed by the same people. And being next to the Glendale Galleria Mall, its got something for everyone.

So let’s recap:

Great, safe neighborhood.

Easy access to downtown LA, Silver Lake, Hollywood

The Americana 5 minutes away.

What more do you want? Oh yeah, we’re still the best deal on condos around!

The Hudson’s Neighborhood Fresh and Easy- Open and Ready to Serve!

felogo.gifYou’ve probably seen these popping up everywhere; I think the count is around 33 stores in 66 days. And we have one just around the corner on Eagle Rock Blvd. After all the buzz about these stores getting the best of me, I finally ventured in.

Now for those of you who always wanted to be THAT checkout guy/gal behind the conveyor belt, your wildest dreams can now be fulfilled. This is kind of a do-it-yourself grocery store. You scan your own stuff, and follow the menu on the check-out screen. Easy. Just as the name promised.

Now, for the fresh part. Hey, they promised that, too, right? I love this place. The pre-packaged meals are tasty, and most of the stuff is pretty cheap (no check-out people to pay I guess). This isn’t to say the store is void of any employees, (for those of you already masterminding that great grocery rip-off).

In fact, the people who do work there are friendly, helpful and will jump in and help you bag your swag at the end of your shopping tour. They even gave me some coupons to lure me back ASAP - I think they expire in a week.

The meat, fish, and veggies are all fresh and vibrant, and the place is actually a breath of fresh air from the usual grocery shopping excursions where you are constantly bombarded by advertising. It’s kinda like the Zen of shopping. Relaxed, enjoyable…you become one with the food.

The place is packed with just about everything, but I still need my Whole foods fix now and then. One thing’s for sure, you won’t go hungry in this neighborhood.
